Shipping out to Boston

Deriba Merga won today’s Boston marathon in a truly amazing time of 2:08:42, beating my best marathon time by roughly three and a half hours. Amazing run Deriba!

Other times of note, Salina Kosgei won the women’s division in 2:32:16, Ryan Hall was the fastest American man in 2:09:32 and Kara Goucher was the fastest American woman in 2:32:25. Steve Runner of Phedippidations, a podcast I listen to weekly, finished in 5:01, way to go Steve!

I haven’t said this to anyone before, but the real long term goal of this recommitting to running is not just about getting good in general, it is about getting good enough to qualify for this race. To be able to qualify for Boston, I will have to cut, roughly, two and half hours off my current marathon time. Two and a half hours, that a life time. That is long than it took Deriba Merga to run the whole damn thing. I am a long long way from a 3:15 marathon, but that’s alright, I got time.
