The Importance of Consistent Training

There is a brief and superficial article in the New York Times this morning on the importance of consistent and long term training to success in sports in general and running in particular. The article focuses on the need to join a team or get a coach. I’m considering these options. When I’m at a stage where I can at least attempt to run with the big dogs, I’ll likely get involved in my local running club.

I have to remember that this is about putting in the miles, but really it is about putting in the smart miles.

On a side note, yesterday I started feeling a twinge of what I think is a mild case of plantar faciitis, which sucks. My plan right now is to scale back today and tomorrow’s runs by mile each and still try and get the ten miler in on Saturday. If the pain persists, I might have to cut back the milage even more. We’ll see, I feel like I am just starting to see some gains, so hopefully this won’t be a big problem.

i think about coaches and teams often. Before i drank the cf kool aid i was thinking about a running coach. But now cf really provides the coach and the team all at once.

yeah, the CF atmosphere is great I think for the social pressure of a team and for the one on one coaching it often involves. Too bad they don’t train people to qualify for Boston!
