Training Totals 5/24/09

Training Totals for the Week Ending 5.24.09

RECAP – Well, that week was almost entirely a wash. It started out with me dealing with some pretty serious hip and glute pain, which I at first thought was ITBS, but after consulting the super helpful runningahead forums came to think it was a piriformis issue. A couple of days of ibuprofen and self massage and I was back on the roads on Thursday for an easy three miler. Nothing really hurt that day, but the next day my hip was a little sore. Still, I  went out for four on Friday and then eight on Saturday. By the end of the eight miler on Saturday I was hurting. I think favoring my hip I used my calf muscles significantly more than I usually do and they (and my hip) were giving me some problems yesterday. Lucky for me, Sunday is a scheduled rest day, and after a day of recovery I am ready to get back on the road and see if I can get the mileage back up where it belongs this week.

Review of Last Week’s Goals:

1. Pay attention to ITBS injury and plan runs accordingly – DONE

2. Barring injury problems, ride bike to work twice – FAILED (sorta, injury and scheduling prevented this)

3. Develop schedule for summer cross training FAILED

Next Week’s Goals:

1.    Barring injury get run mileage back up over 25 mpw
2.    Develop schedule for summer cross training

3.    Pay attention to hip issues including adding stretches before bed

4.    Buy pull up bar

5.    Get sports watch fixed and begin accurately timing runs

6.  Baring injury, bike to classes and work twice

* A note on the times. I am using my standard wristwatch for this, hence, no seconds. I’ll probably treat myself to a running watch eventually.
