Tell us a little about the race.
5/5/2013. My 2nd marathon. A warm (but not hot), sunny day, a flat course, and a smartly executed race. My best running friend came through the line 2 minutes after me and qualified for her first time as well! I PRed by 24 minutes (mainly because my first marathon was not run for time)

Barely
Did speed work play a role or specific workouts play a role in your training? If so, how?
In the ~2.5mo leading up to the race, did track/speedwork every Tues, tempo/progression/LT work every Thurs, and a long run on the weekend which sometimes involved pickup sections or fast finishes. The days in between those 3 were easy runs. (My exact training from back then can be found on dailymile, username = rlk_117)
Any other thoughts you would like to share with those of working towards a BQ?
