Its my blog and I’ll whine if I want to

Ugh. Right now I am in a state of why do I even do this? Grunted through a miserable loop in the park last night and woke up this morning with a pretty sharp pain in my left ankle (again). Perhaps I need to realize this just isn’t my sport, perhaps I should just head to the gym like all the other middle aged lawyers.

Bummed. Hating running, I need to get out of this slump, but I’m not sure how.

SHUT IT! This is BS and you know it!

Ah the kind of loving support I have come to expect from the running community.

You’re right of course, gotta run through it.

    Time off OR…

more short term goals? Run a 5k soon? Then find another one to run in two months?

(Probably leaving this comment because I wish there were 5ks for dissertations!)

Fuck time off, I feel like the last month has been time off!

Running a 5k soon seems like the smart thing to do, I just need to find one on a weekend when I am not traveling.

Or find a 5k somewhere you are traveling to? Also, I wonder if having variety in where you run might help? I know that having a constant route makes things easy, but I am always motivated by going new places. Then again, most runners think I’m a freak for my hatred of running in parks.

    agree with smt

Run a 5k or time trial a 5k on your own and use that as a benchmark. Then create the short term goal of beating it with in the next 2-3 weeks. Think short term instead of way down the road (spring marathon etc…).

Get your head out of the miles per week game right now. Not important when motivations is low and can be very disheartening.

Just get out there have some fun and get after it.

Thanks for this, Kmark. Getting my head out of the miles per week thing is definitely right. Putting together a couple of days of decent running is all I am looking to do right now. And I’ll definitely be looking for a 5k.
